Is there a right or wrong way to teach students about discrimination?

A popular teacher for ten years helped students explore various significant social issues. Because a student became upset about a discussion on racism,  some parents and then the school board turned against the teacher, who was transferred to another school and asked to stop discussing upsetting issues.
